CELL PHONES/TELECOMMUNICATION DEVICES
The district permits students to possess personal mobile telephones; however, these devices must remain turned off during the instructional day, including all testing, unless they are being used for approved instructional purposes. A student must have approval to possess other telecommunications devices such as notebooks, laptops, tablets, or other portable computers. Cell phones are permitted to be used when returning from a co-curricular event with the permission of the coach or sponsor.

If a student uses a telecommunications device without authorization during the school day, the device will be confiscated.
Confiscation of a cell phone, telecommunication device, or Wi Fi enabled device will result in:
• 1st offense: Return to Parent / Guardian only with a $15.00 fine and disciplinary action taken in accordance with the Spurger ISD Student Code of Conduct.
• 2nd offense: Return to Parent / Guardian only with a $15.00 fine at the end of semester and disciplinary action taken in accordance with the Spurger ISD Student Code of Conduct.
• 3rd offense: Return to Parent / Guardian only at the end of the school year, disciplinary action taken in accordance with the Spurger ISD Student Code of Conduct, and a $15.00 fine.
If a student refuses to relinquish the telecommunications device upon request of a staff member, that student shall be sent to the office for further disciplinary measures, accordance with the Spurger ISD Student Code of Conduct.
