Our Varsity Boys Cross Country team has advanced to the regional contest for the fourth time in four years. The team competed on October 11, 2023 in Zavalla and placed second as a team with Junior, Landon Heim placing second overall with his personal best time of 17:59. Coming in 5th place was Freshman, Zechariah Grissom, in 7th place, Junior, Joshua Grissom, in 9th place was Senior, Luis Jimenez, in 10th place was Sophomore, Gage Gray, and in 14th place came Sophomore, Canyon Baker. The top five runners all finished in the top 10 with times not exceeding 20 minutes. In the previous 2022 season, Spurger Varsity Boys Cross Country team was the alternate to the state contest and the Pirates are hoping to go all the way this year. The performance of these guys in this district contest shows great promise of a state qualifying team so be sure to congratulate them and support them as they continue their season. They will compete in the regional contest in Corpus Christi on October 23, 2023.
The Varsity Lady Pirates were represented by Freshman, Roxy Burge and Sophomore, Citori Stakes who had a great season with finishes in the top 20.
