Spurger ISD Kicks Off the Texas Farm Fresh Challenge
Spurger ISD is proud to announce that we have officially joined the 2025 Texas Farm Fresh Challenge this October! This statewide initiative, hosted by the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA), encourages school districts and child nutrition programs to highlight locally grown Texas foods, incorporate agricultural education, and engage the school community through nutrition-based activities.
What the Challenge Means for Spurger ISD
Our cafeteria staff are excited to source and serve locally grown items in school meals, bringing the taste of Texas to our students.
We’ll integrate education and awareness about local agriculture — students may see posters, announcements, or food sampling events in cafeterias and classrooms.
To support these efforts, we’ll use the resources provided by TDA: the Success Guide, tracking tools, printable materials (like “I Tried Local” stickers), and social media templates.
How We’re Participating
Spurger ISD joined by pledging to serve Texas-grown foods in our meals during October, per the guidelines of the Challenge.
Each week, we’ll focus on one or more local food items and include related activities to teach students about where their food comes from, how it grows, and why it matters.
We’ll also share our journey on social media using hashtags like #FarmFreshTexas and #FarmFreshChallenge to meet the “Be Social” component of the challenge.
Why We’re Excited
The Farm Fresh Challenge gives us a chance to:
Strengthen the connection between students and local agriculture,
Support Texas farmers and producers,
Encourage healthier eating habits,
And spotlight Spurger ISD’s commitment to fresh, nutritious food.
We hope the whole community will join in — through learning, tasting, and celebrating the bounty of Texas agriculture with us!
