School Lunch Hero Appreciation

At Spurger ISD, student success is supported in many ways—one of the most important happens in our cafeterias each day. Our food service team, led by Food Service Supervisor Penny Tinkle, plays a vital role in ensuring every student is well-fed, cared for, and ready to learn.

Under Penny’s leadership, our cafeteria program continues to excel. Spurger ISD has proudly won the Farm Fresh Challenge for two consecutive years, highlighting a commitment to quality ingredients and fresh options for our students. Most recently, the team also earned a perfect 100 on their health inspection, reflecting their attention to detail, cleanliness, and adherence to all state and federal guidelines.

Beyond meeting standards, our cafeteria team goes above and beyond to serve our students well. Spurger ISD provides free meals to all students, ensuring that every child has access to nutritious food throughout the school day. Students also benefit from multiple daily options, including a hot line and a grab-and-go line, giving them the flexibility to choose what works best for them.

In addition, the district offers a free Second Chance Breakfast each day, making sure that students who may have missed breakfast still have an opportunity to start their day right.

What truly sets our program apart, however, is the people behind it. Our cafeteria staff creates a positive, welcoming environment where students are greeted with smiles and consistency. Their teamwork, pride in their work, and care for students are evident every single day.

Spurger ISD is proud of our School Lunch Heroes and grateful for the impact they make across our district. Their work fuels not just our students’ bodies, but their ability to succeed in the classroom and beyond.
