Celebrating Principal Tanya Cain During National Principals Month

SPURGER, TX — October is National Principals Month, and Spurger ISD is proud to recognize Mrs. Tanya Cain, Principal of Spurger Elementary, for her dedication to student success, academic growth, and the relationships that make our school community so special.

With 15 years of experience in education and four years serving as principal at Spurger Elementary, Mrs. Cain has made student growth and meaningful relationships central to her leadership. She understands that a successful school is built not only on academic achievement but also on the connections between students, teachers, families, and staff.

Under her leadership, Spurger Elementary has continued working toward academic excellence, building upon years of campus improvement. Once rated an F campus by the Texas Education Agency in 2019, Spurger Elementary achieved a B accountability rating in 2025, reflecting the hard work and dedication of students and educators.

Most recently, the campus earned three Texas Education Agency distinction designations for the 2025–2026 school year: Academic Achievement in Mathematics, Top 25 Percent in Comparative Academic Growth, and Top 25 Percent in Comparative Closing the Gaps. These distinctions recognize outstanding performance compared to similar campuses across Texas, particularly in mathematics, student academic growth, and efforts to close achievement gaps.

While these achievements are certainly worth celebrating, Mrs. Cain's impact reaches far beyond accountability ratings. Her commitment to building relationships, encouraging students, and supporting teachers helps create a school environment where children feel valued, challenged, and inspired to succeed.

The progress at Spurger Elementary is a testament to the collective efforts of its students, teachers, staff, and families, with Mrs. Cain helping guide and support that shared commitment to excellence.

As we celebrate National Principals Month, Spurger ISD extends its sincere appreciation to Mrs. Cain for her leadership, dedication, and genuine care for our students and community.

We are incredibly proud and fortunate to have Mrs. Cain leading Spurger Elementary. Thank you for everything you do to help our young Pirates learn, grow, and succeed!
