Rennie Fontaine

The 2022 Teacher of the Year recipient for Spurger ISD is Rennie Fontaine. Mrs. Fontaine currently teaches 7th and 8th Grade Science and Technology at Spurger Jr. High.

Rennie Fontaine is in her 22nd year of teaching and 12 of those years include teaching Middle School Science. In addition to Science, she has taught a variety of subjects and coached a variety of extracurricular activities which includes Coaching Cheerleading, Drill Team, Swimming, and being the Yearbook Sponsor. This is actually her sixth year to teach at Spurger. She taught in Spurger for four years, then returned after four years because she missed the small town she grew to love. She has always felt that there is something special about Spurger, the students, staff, and community. She is so happy to be back.

Although Mrs. Fontaine grew up in Silsbee, she graduated from Western State University in Gunnison, Colorado with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Kinesiology and Minor in Psychology. Her time in Colorado made her fall in love with Science. She became fascinated by how the world works and the magical science behind each discovery.  She shares her love for the outdoors with her family and they spend a lot of time exploring, skiing, hiking, biking, and fishing. She has been married to Jason Fontaine for 21 years and they have two boys, Greg and Will. Their son Greg lives in Colorado, living the adventurous life, and Will is serving in the United States Navy.

What she loves most about teaching are light bulb moments. The moment a struggling student understands and it all makes sense, their face lights up and they have a new energy and excitement about what they are learning.
