While most were resting over Winter Break, Mr. Burnthorn, Coach Saulsbury, and Mrs. Huddleston were hard at work. They successfully completed the Entry Level Driver Training Course with Angelina College!
This is a major milestone required before they take their official CDL tests. We are so proud of their commitment to our students and our district. Way to go, Pirates! 🏴☠️

Rawdon Saulsbury has been selected as my choice to receive the Hook Award. His work ethic and dedication to his job duties makes him a clear choice in receiving this award. He handles many responsibilities and is definitely an asset to Spurger ISD and his community.

Our Spurger Lady Pirates have earned a playoff spot! We would like to invite everyone to come out Monday, February 16th to Corrigan to see our girls take on the Centerville Bulldogs starting at 6pm. There will also be a fan bus available for students! Congratulations Lady Pirates!
Our Seniors are "Out of this World"! Yesterday, our Seniors took their academic field trip to Space Center Houston where they were able to learn more about the history of space travel, experience how astronauts train, and witness all of the exciting things currently happening with the Artemis Mission which is set to launch within the next few months! We love this trip because many of our current students are training to be welders and engineers and Nasa presents so many amazing opportunities for careers. Maybe one day we will see a few of these students busy at work when we come to visit!

What a great weekend for our Lady Pirates! SHS took on the Leggett Pirates and came out victorious on Friday night! Coach LeBouef was proud to see his team stay on top in this fast paced game that came down to the wire. Spurger was able to close it out and come away with the win, keeping them in the hunt for playoffs. The guards did a great job getting points on the inside while the posts defended the paint! Kyley Perry was a defensive threat at the top!
This Saturday, our Varsity Lady Pirates basketball team got the opportunity to celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day with the University of Houston Cougars as they played Texas Tech! Our girls were recognized at the game for their hard work and dedication this season! They were able to talk with the players and get autographs. This is the second year our Lady Pirates have traveled to see the Cougars and it was a special moment to see them reconnect with their favorite players!
Our athletes at Spurger make us proud on and off the court! Congratulations Ladies on the win, and Happy National Girls and Women in Sports to all of our female athletes here at SHS!
