Merry Christmas to all from Mrs. Cain

When the Bell Rings for Christmas Break

From my doorway, I watch the halls empty,
laughter echoing out into the pine trees of Spurger.
Our kids head home to hunt, fish, ride four-wheelers,
kick up dust on dirt bikes,
or curl up with electronics after long days of learning.

I know Christmas looks different in every home,
and I carry each child with me knowing
some face harder roads than others.
But they are resilient, kind, and strong—
able to find joy right where they are planted.

As the final bell rings, I send them off with hope,
prayers, and a reminder:
this school will be here waiting, lights on,
when the break is over.

Merry Christmas from your principal,
right here in the pines of East Texas. 🎄

Before we leave for Christmas Break we would like to shout out our Lady Pirate Basketball teams. Both junior high and high school female athletes are making Spurger proud! Due to a quick change made by Coach Melissa and Coach Stapert, after the opposing teams didn't show up, the junior high girls scrimmaged each other and what a show it was! The teams were led by Coach Melissa and even some of our high school athletes helped out by coaching and cheering on our junior high athletes!
This week was also a great showing for our Varsity Lady Pirates who are 2-0 in district after they took a 20 point win over Chester! Coach LeBouef felt that the team played well together and their teamwork was what clenched the victory. He recognized three MVPs of the game: Madalynn Odom was the lead scorer with 15 points, 3 rebounds, and was an asset on defense; Summer Merritt was critical to the defense by getting 12 rebounds, 4 steals, and 3 blocks; and Kiley Crain scored 10 points and went 6 for 7 on the free throw line. She also had 6 rebounds, 13 deflections, and 5 steals.
We are excited to see the Lady Pirates take on Hull Daisetta on January 2nd at home!
