At the October School Board meeting, Spurger ISD announced its Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST) score. Kristen Bruton, Business Manager, presented the information to the board. She announced that Spurger ISD received the highest possible rating, a Superior Financial Rating, from the Texas Education Agency.
The FIRST system reports on public school districts’ financial accountability ratings and is required by Senate Bill 218. The FIRST report for the 2023-2024 school year is based on 2022-2023 financial data. The FIRST rating assesses the quality of financial
management in Texas public schools and measures the extent to which financial resources in schools assures the maximum possible funding for direct instructional purposes. This rating system also evaluates the quality of financial management decisions, improves the management of a school district’s financial resources, and
increases financial accountability within the public education system. Districts are rated on 20 individual metrics. Spurger ISD received a perfect rating on all metrics with an overall evaluation score of 100.
In addition to having a perfect FIRST rating, Spurger ISD has been able to pass another balanced budget while decreasing the tax rate for the third year in a row. Over the last 20 years, Spurger ISD has been able to reduce the ISD tax rate from $1.620 to $0.891
representing a 45% decrease over that time. Spurger ISD appreciates and recognizes that this level of financial prudence and efficiency is beneficial to our students, staff, and community.

We kicked off Red Ribbon Week with the lights and sirens parade.
