What a fun week to be a Pirate!! Our Drug Free Week ended with a costume dress-up day. There were super heroes, princesses, storybook characters, and a host of other adorable Pirates dressed up for the day. Pirate Pride! Love it! Live it! 😊

NOTIFICATION OF CONFIRMED COVID-19 CASE ON CAMPUS 10/29/2020 Dear Parent/Guardian, In keeping with Spurger ISD’s practices to respond to COVID-19, we are notifying all student families that a Staff Member who was lab-confirmed to have COVID-19 was present on the Elementary on 10/28/2020. You are receiving this notice, because you or your child was present on the campus in the seven days prior to the individual’s diagnosis of COVID-19. Due to privacy requirements, we will not be releasing the name of the individual or details that may identify him or her. Spurger ISD’s Mitigation Plan provides for extensive cleaning and sanitization protocols, as well as social distancing procedures, including the wearing of face masks. As such, CDC guidance provides that the risk of someone contracting COVID-19 from the staff member is low and this notice is being provided in an abundance of caution. The local health department has begun a case investigation and will contact any individuals determined to be in close contact with the infected individual. All students and staff that came into close contact will be directly notified no later than 10/29/2020. Those that were in close contact will remain off campus for up to 14 days to ensure they do not have the virus, so that there will not be any further spread. We will keep you apprised of further updates. Any of the following symptoms indicate a possible COVID-19 infection: -Temperature of 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit or higher when taken by mouth; - Sore throat; -New uncontrolled cough that causes difficulty breathing (or, for students with a chronic allergic/asthmatic cough, a change in their cough from baseline); -Diarrhea, vomiting, or abdominal pain; or -New onset of severe headache, especially with a fever. If you or any member of the Elementary School community does begin experiencing any of these symptoms in a way that is not typical, we encourage you to contact your physician. We encourage anyone in the Elementary School community who is lab-confirmed to have COVID19 to please notify our school by contacting (409) 429-3464. Mrs. Fountain’s 8th grade classes got to have a little fun during class discovering the physics behind everyday toys!

Mrs. Fontaine’s 7th grade classes got to study the musculoskeletal system in their “chicken wing” lab!

Our Greenhouse class loves a good donation! Our students will surely have a green thumb after working with these beautiful plants!

1-2-3!! Be drug free! Mrs. Fea's 2nd grade class has their own Drug Free Week cheer squad. Her class is also filled with math geniuses, as is shown by students who received a perfect score on their math test. Way to go Pirates! 😊

Back to the Basics. Agricultural. It’s what made us strong.

Nurse Pam and Mrs. Robinson were out and about today during lunches giving out drug and vape awareness information to the Jr. High and High School students. Each student that stopped by had their name placed into a drawing for a pair of free earbuds!

Attention Spurger Parents and Guardians: We have Verizon filtered Mifis available for student use. These Mifis are to help your students succeed if we go to remote learning. One Mifi per family. Quality of internet service depends on your area. A form will be sent out specific to you to ensure easy fast pickup. After completeing the form you have the opportunity to request that the student bring the device home. Just say no!! Elementary students dressed in red today to kick off Red Ribbon Week. The Tyler County Sheriff's Office also came out for a drive-by parade. 😊

Next week is Red Ribbon Week! We will use these dress up days across all campuses as we vow to be DRUG FREE!

You are now officially a bookworm! 5th and 6th grade students who reached 25 AR points or higher, for the 9 weeks, joined the "Bookworm Club" and received their own bag of gummy worms. Students who reached their personal AR goal for the 9 weeks received a snack and drink of their choice. Way to go Mrs. Williams and your fellow Bookworms! 😊

Way to go Jonathan!! He received a certificate today from Mrs. McGallion for counting so well and working hard in class! We are proud of you! 😊

You go girl! Mileigh received a Positive Pirate office referral for her hard work this week. Mrs. Martindale said, "She has displayed a positive attitude even when the work was difficult! Way to Pirate on!" 😊

!!GREAT NEWS!! Homecoming is almost here....it will be November 16th-20th. Due to Covid, things will be slightly different this year with us having coronation and the bonfire on Thursday and the parade and the game on Friday. More details will be released soon on all things homecoming. In the meantime, please look over our spirit days and plan accordingly! Our theme this year is, "When you wish upon a star...." !!HAPPY HOMECOMING!!
