Treat others the way you want to be treated. Emerson is doing just that in Mrs. Kirkendall's PreK class. She received a certificate for always being kind. Great job! 😊

On this THANKFUL TUESDAY, we want to know what you are thankful for!! Share with us. We are thankful for Mr. Cauthen! Mr. Cauthen is here before the roosters rise to make sure he welcomes all students and staff with a smile! We are thankful for you Mr. Cauthen!

Mrs. Smith’s Algebra 1 class spent the week multiplying monomials by polynomials and her Algebra 2 class used colors to compose functions! Way to go guys!

Mrs. Williams' 5th and 6th grade students began their novel studies today on Because of Winn Dixie and The Indian in the Cupboard, while taking advantage of the beautiful weather. 😊

Dear Pirate Family,
On Wednesday, September 30, the remote learning contract for the second nine week grading period will be available. This contract will last until January 6th. If you plan for your child to remain remote, we ask that you sign the agreement by October 7th. The State has made this option available this year due to COVID. The intent is to give families an option of remote learning if there is a health concern regarding the virus.
As a reminder the remote option is not for vacations, hunting trips, cruises etc. It is to provide support for families during COVID. As soon as you feel comfortable, we need your child in face to face instruction because we know that, educationally, this is the best for them. Also, our teachers are essentially working two jobs: face to face and online learning. Most of our teachers are working at least 12+ hours a day because of both of these platforms. This is another reason that if you do not have a health concern, we need your child face to face. However, if the Covid virus is causing concern for your family, then you are encouraged to exercise the remote learning option.
Pirate On,
Morgan Wright
Spurger ISD Superintendent

Mrs. LeBouef's English 3 participating in a mock Puritan/Witch trial as they completed reading the Crucible! Students learned about mob mentality and the dangers of accusing without evidence. Great job Mrs. LeBouef!

Wow! That is so cool! Students enjoyed Show and Tell in Mrs. Cooley's 2nd grade class today. 😊

Kindergarten is the apple of Mrs. Saulsbury's eye! They each enjoyed their own apple pie today for Johnny Appleseed week. 🍎 😊

Take me out to the ball game, or better yet, take me to Ms. Martindale's 4th grade science class. Students had a ball learning about the properties of matter. 😊

It has been a great start for SHS!!!

The local health department has begun a case investigation and will contact any individuals
determined to be in close contact with the infected individual. All students and staff that came
into close contact will be directly notified no later than 9/6//2020. Those that were in close

We would like to share with you an opportunity to help our neighbors in Newton, as they recover from Hurricane Laura. Items may be brought to the Elementary on Friday and will be delivered Saturday. Thank you. 😊

Dear Pirate Family, I’m glad we all made it through the storm safely and avoided catastrophic destruction. I know many of you all are dealing with power issues. Due to power and internet fluctuations we are going to have all staff begin on Monday and students will restart remote learning Tuesday. Hopefully, this will give the power companies time to resolve the fluctuation issues.
